Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada

Stepmother

I am a new stepmom and the ''x'' is being extremely rude concerning the child being around my family. Is my family NOT to be a part of his life? We've done nothing to upset her, she's just lashing out for some reason... She called us irresponsible for leaving him with my parents for 2 days while we went out of town... i would like to know the law as far as my family and the child being together. Also she keeps threatening to have be banned from her kid??? I have no idea why she's attacking me, i've done nothing, but now that i'm married to his father, what parenting rights does that give me? As far as being able to find a babysitter and leaving him with members of my family... Just something i can inform her of so she wont threaten me with this anymore.

Re: Stepmother

In a divorce with children the parenting styles and preferences of the natural father and natural mother are different. Unfortunately the presence of step-parents makes this more complicated. There is no law except that the step-parent must act reasonably while with the step-children and not commit neglect or abuse of them which in his or her care. If the natural mother is harassing you then you can take her to Family Court for a lecture from the Judge. You don't have to take abuse or do everything she wants her way. You and your husband exercise your prerogatives insofar as child rearing while you have the children in your care.
