Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada

Termination of parental rights

My father voluntarily terminated his parental rights to me when I was 7. I have noticed that there must be a ''sufficient reason'' to change a persons name (marriage, divorce). I am over 18. I was wondering if my father terminating his right is a ''sufficient reason''.

Good afternoon.

If you're father is no longer affiliated with you involving his parental rights, that is sufficient grounds to change your name. You'd have to have documentation of his relinqueshment to provide the Court.

You would have to file a Petition for Name Change with the Family Court. Contact my office and we could set up a free consultation to discuss your matter.

Yes. If you still retain his last name, you can ask the court to change your last name as a result. You should contact an attorney who can prepare a Petition for Name Change.
