Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Nevada
3 days ago my husband and boss are in Reno at Atlantis Casino Hotel. upon returning from dinner they found the door to their room ajar.... so sometime between the hours of 6pm- 11pm their hotel room was burglarized. they contacted hotel security immediatley and filled out reports etc.. of items taken
$400.00 worth or prescription pain meds were taken,
set or car keys with a remote entry (thank god they were the boss work truck keys)
brand new tee shirt
I-pod docking station that was the hotels
.. oh yeah a pair of my husbands dirty socks
..and answered all the stupid questions such as did you lock your door? are you sure your door was locked? Yes Yes possitivley yes! the security person on duty responsible for that area confirmed that the door was locked.
They said they would have to review the survallence for that time period and they would get back to him.
Ever since they have STONE WALLED him and said no one has been able to review the survellence footage yet... yada yada yada...
and to add insult to injury. Tthey didn't even comp. the room.
We want to know if there has been any other reports of rooms being burglarized in their hotel recently
Maybe it's a staff member ??? Maybe someone went and got a dup card ???
They have those places blanketed with camera's..
What can we do???

That is a disturbing set of facts and it doesn't give a person much confidence in the Atlantis. I have not heard of such cases recently anywhere, though I'm sure it happens more often than we would like to think. Nevada law limits and in effect eliminates the Hotel's liability or responsibility for such an occurrence. Herre is the law in Nevada on the subject.
NRS 651.010 Civil liability of innkeepers limited.
1. An owner or keeper of any hotel, inn, motel, motor court, boardinghouse or lodging house in this State is not civilly liable for the theft, loss, damage or destruction of any property brought by a patron upon the premises or left in a motor vehicle upon the premises because of theft, burglary, fire or otherwise, in the absence of gross neglect by the owner or keeper.
