Lawyer removed himself from my case

I sued my partner, he counter sued claiming I violated the ''non-compete'' clause of our agreement. The court allowed the non compete for one year. It expires on Feb 1, 2007. Now they went back to court to extend the non-compete or issue a contempt of court. The judge did not rule, but allowed the case to be refiled. My attorney withdrew from the case and now I see online that they filed for a summary judgment which will be heard in January 2007. What is a summary judgment? With no attorney do they have to serve the papers to me? What can I do to protect myself from having some legal battle won without me even knowing about it?

A summary judgment is a way you can win the case outright without going to trial. If you do not have a lawyer you will probably lose. The other side has to serve you, but they may say they did even if you don't think that they did.
