I have no children. I have an adult male who is like a son to me. He was born in Nicaragua. If I adopt him, can he get a green card and work towards citizenship?

No, you cannot petition him for U.S. permanent residency if you adopt him as an adult. The adoption would have needed to take place before his 16th birthday.
