lost case
my whole family was petitioned by my us citizen aunt back in the mid 80's by the time the visa was available I was already over 21 yrs old according to the law I no longer qualified, However I recently heard I could of hired an attorney and fought my case, because I had the right to ask to change the effective date to the year My family was petitioned is this true?

Yes, you may be eligible to seek immigration benefits under the Child Status Protection Act (CSPA), which states that if you were under 21 years old when the original petition was filed (priority date established) and then you turn 21 years old while waiting for the priority date to become current, then you can be characterized as being under 21 years old as long as you file your adjustment of status application within one year from the date your priority date becomes current.
