been married to my austalian husband for two yrs and have a child born in america, how many years until my husband can get citizenship?

You have to file an application to adjust status to permanent residence ("green card"). It takes about 6 months from date of filing to go to an interview before an immigration examiner. If the immigration examiner is satisfied with the evidence presented to show marriage in good faith, then the immigration examiner will approve the application. Your husband must wait three years from the date he obtained his "green card" to obtain U.S. citizenship.
