Legal Question in Employment Law in Nevada

rigths as an independent contractor

I work for a company as a indep. contractor. I would like to know are there any laws regarding hours work, breaks or even lunches for inde. contr.? we are told what time to show up. supplied materials, and also told when we cant leave. I have worked many 10-12 hour days with no break and no lunch. Is this legal. I love my job but I feel that the ''independent contractor'' is tool for abuse.

Re: rigths as an independent contractor

Your rights as an independent contractor are very limited but you may have more rights as an employee. That would include a right to overtime pay. From what you describe you may really, as a matter of law, be an employee even though the boss calls you an independent contractor. Please contact me if you would like to explore this further or might be interested in pursuing a claim for overtime pay (you may be owed overtime pay even if you are are paid on commission, weekly salary or piecework)
