Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Nevada

evicting a house guest

A friend of mine allowed a person to temporarily stay with her. This person told my friend it would be for about a month which has turned into 8 months with no sign of ending. My friend has toldthis person it's time to go but they keep giving excuses. It finally erupted into a fight and my friend was arrested for domestic violence. Both parties are female and have been friends for since childhood. My friend owns the house. What can she do to remove this person from her house? Thanks.

Re: evicting a house guest

If it's in Nevada, you should direct the question to a NV attorney. If in CA, your friend could give the other person a 30-day notice to vacate. If she does not do so, then your friend could bring an unlawful detainer to have the sheriff get her out. Then, she'll have to change the locks. Please let me know if I may help.

If you're in California, you give the lodger a 30 day notice and if she doesn't leave, you call the police to have her arrested for trespassing. You can do all this without filing a lawsuit. Call me if you have any questions. Good luck....Phil
