How can I be sure of an attorney?
I am going to have to get representation in Las Vegas,Nevada
because of a n accident at a Casino. How can i be sure the lawyer will take care of my interests and not be bought off by the Casino? Obviously, this is an honest question as it could happen.Any suggestions as to the laws preventing this?

This is just general information. No representations are made and no attorney client relationship is established by this communication. In most matters there are strict time limitations within which actions may be taken or your rights will be compromised. We are not taking any action on your matter and will not be considered your attorney or tax representative until both you and we have signed a fee agreement.
We, therefore will take no action on your behalf unless a written retainer agreement is signed. There are strict deadlines, called statutes of limitation, within which claims or lawsuits must be filed. Therefore, if you do not retain SELIKLAW, you should immediately seek the services of another attorney or other advisor.

I don't know that you need to worry about an attorney being "bought off." Typically, attorneys handle injury cases on a contingent fee, which means that they get paid a percentage of what they get for you, and therefore, the more you get, the higher the attorney fee. More importantly, attorneys are governed by rules of professional ethics, and if an attorney you hire has a relationship with the defendant, they must disclose this to you or risk disbarment.
That being said, there are several things you can do to feel confident that your attorney is looking out for you. If you live in Missouri, hire a Missouri attorney. The close proximity to your attorney should give you some comfort and you then are absolutely certain, if the above doesn't comfort you enough, that he or she has no relationship with casino. My firm and others routinely handle cases for out of Missouri injuries, and consult with colleagues in other states when needed.
The most important thing to do is research the attorney you hire! Make sure they are members of ATLA and the local trial lawyers group MATA in Missouri, before you hire them. Insist on an attorney who has experience in injury matters! Hiring a general practice attorney for something as specialized as an injury case is like going to your family doctor for heart problems- they may be able to handle everything for you, or your case may require expertise out side of his or her area. I can tell you that I only handle injury cases, and would never do a divorce, will or such as it would be outside of my area and I would be more likely to miss something that a lawyer who does those things regularly.
If I can be of further assistance, or if you would like to discuss your case, without cost or obligation, I would be honored to assist. Until we speak, please know that neither I nor LawGuru.com represent you.
Thank you.
