Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Nevada
Dog injury
My poodle was mauled by a rotweiller as the neighbor left her get open 11 weeks ago. She had surgery and the bills amounted to $4,200 to date and still facing another surgery for $1,600.00. A claim was filed by the homeowner on this. I just got off the phone with the adjuster and he said this is ridiculous and that an animal is considered property and the value of the dog is $1,000 and they have paid more 4 times more than they should have already. I told them i want to get legal advice before opting my dog not getting the full care she should. I was going to show her in a year and can't because of it as well if that makes a difference.

Re: Dog injury
The adjuster is correct that pets are considered property so you cannot recover for pain and suffering to the animal or your emotional distress. However, the adjuster is incorrect in that often times human lives are worth than the medical bills and so long as the vet bills are reasonable and necessary and related to this attack the adjuster should pay them. Insofar as you losing a show dog that is unfortunate but not compensible.
