I hired this attorney to modify my loan and a bankruptcy. When I checked his credentials, it says he was working for this topnotch XYZ firm in downtown. However, our first meeting was in a dental office, he had a desk in a back office? He claims they were having a conference in their office,across the street,where his office is. When I mentioned to him that I knew he worked in the XYZ firm downtown, he said, he had left that firm. He is now with this ABC firm,he says, which is across the street. To add to the confusion, the law firm across the street is PQR law firm. He asked me to write the checks to ABC firm addressed across the street (which is supposedly he claims, and the paperwork states is across the street). I only made one check payable for that day, the rest are postdated. I called the downtown firm, XYZ, they say he is still working for them. I checked the firm I made the check out to and no such firm is here in my state. Both partners are in a different state. I do not mind all this. I just want to be informed upfront what is going on and not be confused. I think its part of all lawyers' ethics as part of their disclosure to their clients. Is this set up legal?
