Homestead effective date

When does a homestead protect me?

Lets say yesterday I got served with papers saying that Im getting sued over a pers. injur. matter and today I go down and file a homestead, is my equity protected based on the fact that there has been no court date or judgement at this time?

Re: Homestead effective date

When you record it your homestead is effective. You also have an exemption for $550,000 in equity on the home you live in.
