Mechanic Lien

My parents sold a property of which I lived in with my X-wife and X-father-in-law. The father in-law built a garage for his own personal use (he was a retired mechanic and made money on side). He did not have the approval of my parents BUT I knew about it and helped build it. Now he is claiming he wants his money out of it because it brought th value of property up. Escrow closed and is holding 1 1/2 times the amount of the lien. 1)I am to understand that if the lien was not filed within 90 days of completetion of project it is in-valid. 2) the lien is only valid for one year and then dropps off. If either of these are true what is my next step to get the money released. We have been in litigations now for 10 months. Our current lawyer contiually asks us to prove our side to it and our creditbility. We have offered some money to him but he wants his amount or nothing? Please help. We want to end this now.

You may want to look into the chapters on STATUTORY LIENS on this site. In this regard, I invite your attention to NRS Chapter 108,

which is found at:

There may be other laws affecting your ability to resolve your mechanic's lien problem, which is necessarily beyond the scope of this reply.
