Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Nevada

Being sued for not paying last months rent?

My was lease was to end in June of ' 02. I inquired about the procedure to move out I spoke the assistant manager who agreed that I had paid first and last months rent . I proceeded to pay May's rent with the understanding that June's rent would be covered by my last months rent.A few weeks later I receive a summons to court stating that I was being sued for June's rent.I called the owner and he denied ever talking to me and stated that in the lease it say's that I could not use my deposit as the last months rent.I looked at the lease and it did state that. I was never informed about this and they let me leave the office with the full confidence that everything was ok.I believe that the owner deliberately let me believe that everything was ok, because he knew that per the terms of the lease that he could keep my deposit and also collect the full months rent for June and I would be owed nothing.I had a perfect rental history with them and it would have been foolish for me to deliberately ruin that.I want to know is there any protection for someone who has been deliberately misled into breaking a contract agreement.Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes - Depending upon what was alleged by the owner and what occurred in court (Did they get a judgment against you?) there may be several things that you can do.

I would need to see your lease and find out what happended in court. You may reach me at (816) 763-4330, or at: [email protected]
