Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Nevada
Can I get back what my mother-in-law took?
My husband and I were married back on January 3,2001. During our marriage we lived with his mother and she basically supported us. Earlly in 2004, she bought us a 10 acre piece of property, bought a manufactured home for the land and my husband and I moved along with our 9 horses, onto that property. On October 21,2004, while driving from Las Vegas to Pahrump, we had a rollover accident and my husband was killed. Since my mother in law had the land and the house in her name she changed the locks and threw away our belongings. I don't think that there is anything I can do about what was in her name but I have been told that anything that was in my husbands name belongs to me. He owned a 1977 Harley Davidson, with the title in his name, and she either sold it or gave it to his friend, who now lives in Reno. There were 9 horses on our property but only a few of them were registered to my husband. His mother just gave away all the horses to her brother in CA. I have a noterized document from the American Quarter Horse Association stated that since my husband had no will, the horses that the AQHA have registered, belong to me. What do I have to do and who do I talk to about getting what is lawfully mine?

What is the value of what your mother-in-law took? You said she bought you the 10 acres. Is there anything in writing that says she was giving you the land? Where is the title to the motorcycle? You need to go to DMV and file a complaint about that and possibly a stolen vehicle report. You should also file a stole report on the horses that were in your husband's name.
