Legal Question in Bankruptcy in New Hampshire
Student Loans that were discharged druing bankruptcy
My $18,000 student loan was discharged in 1991, or so I thought. How am I responsbile now, all these years later, for that debt, when I have a paper from the State of NH Bankruptcy Court that says the student loans were discharged, plus on my credit reports, it shows up as "discharged in bankruptcy"? They want $43,000 now, and I make $13,500 and am raising two children. I cannot even pay the amount necessary to cover interest,, so this will follow me and continue to grow...until I die. Please tell me I have some recourse.

Re: Student Loans that were discharged druing bankruptcy
Call your NH bankruptcy attorney and see if the loans were
discharged. In general a student loan in 1991 could be discharged
if the loan was in repayment for 7 years not counting any forebearance or
deferment.
The law has been changed to make discharge harder.
