What is the differance between being criminally liable and civilly liable?

Criminal liability attaches when you commit a crime against the State. Types of offenses include murder, rape, robbery, theft, etc. Civil liablity is between or among two or more parties. Without some substantive facts, it is hard to determine the essence of your question. Criminal penalties may include fines, imprisonment and restitution. Civil penalties generally do not involve imprisonment.
