Legal Question in Business Law in New Hampshire
what determines location where sales tax is paid
I live in New Hampshire and am sending an online purchase to my father-in-law in Massachusetts. The vendor is charging me a sales tax because the item is being shipped to Massachusetts.
I am paying for the item with my credit card has my New Hampshire address.
Should sales tax be paid to Massachusetts? Will Massachusetts get these funds although I have no legal residence or contact with this state.
Thanks,
Tom

I believe the answer is yes. If you went to Mass and bought something you would owe the sales tax even though you are a NH resident. For large purchases, NH residents buy in Mass but have them shipped to NH.
