Legal Question in Business Law in New Hampshire
Liability and workmans comp insurance
I am starting a new company in which I will be ''hiring'' independant contractors to do the work. My questions is: Do I have to require these contractors to carry liability and workmans comp insurance? I realize it is something they should have for there own benefit but does it have any potential legal consequence to me if they do not? I'll give an example: If the contractor is going to an appointment and gets into a car accident and seriously hurts or even kills someone, could I be sued?
Thanks!!!

Hiring so called "independent contractors' is a very difficult matter. Worker's Comp is for companies not individuals. You should not be starting a business without having an attorney and accountant that knows your business. By the way, you can be sued under the facts you presented.
