cost more than estimate
I am envolved with a project that is going to run over the estimated cost. The total overage is around 8% of the total cost estimated. Is this considered a reasonable amount and should the customer be liable for the overages incurred.

I would need to examine the contract between you and the customer in order to answer this question. If the overage is the result of changes requested by the customer, then we might move in one direction. If the overage is a result of a less than adequate estimate, then you probably have to absorb the charges. Without more detail it is hard to respond as more facts are needed. You probably should consult with an attorney who can more fully examine the course of dealings and advise you accordingly.
