Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Hampshire
I am being taken to court by my credit card company. The court already allowed them to attach to my house in a hearing earlier this year and next week is our next court date, I assume to each plead our case. We find ourselves here through no fault of our own: my husband was in a terrible car accident a few years ago. His employer at the time did not renew his contract to work (we believe because of the accident). Then the economy took a turn for the worse and he has been unable to find any work. We have been trying to live on one paycheck since then and are not able to. It is entirely possible our mortgage is the next to go into default. Can anyone please give me any legal advice that would be helpful to me? I am truly scared and do not know where to turn.

It is hard to tell whether you have already defaulted your court case or there is a hearing on whether to continue the attachment. Regardless, you should not ignore the court date. Depending upon your financial condtion, you may want to consider bankruptcy. It may be possible to wipe out all of your credit card debt which hopefully would leave enough for you to pay your house mortgage and taxes and not have to worry about foreclosure. However, it is not all that easy. There are a number of requirements. Talk to an attorney.
