Father dies with debt, Mother responsible?

My step father has terminal cancer, and my mother is worried that all of his debt will be transfered to her. They were married in March 2006. There is a credit card, medical bills, and a collection agency recently started calling about a truck that my step father had, had repossesed. My step father has no life insurance, and no assets. Which ,if any, of these debts my fall to my mother?

Probably none if she did not sign off on them or guaranty them.

Are any debts secured?

Does he have accounts or other assets?
