Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Hampshire
My wife and I were married in NH back in August. We wrote a check for $1,800 for the reception to the facility we had our wedding and reception at. At the time the check was written there was more than enough to cover it in the bank. The business waited 2-3 weeks before attempting to deposit the check and at that time we were about $50 shy of $1,800. They waited a month and a half to notify us. We asked to set up on a payment arrangement with no response from them. About a month after we found out about the check they sent us a 14 day demand for payment letter in the mail. We contacted them to ask again about making payments and had no response from them. Today, an officer showed up at my house with a warrant for my Wife because of this bad check. What is going to happen from here? Is it likely that she will be convicted of a Felony when she DID NOT knowingly write a bad check? Is the complete lack of communication on the part of the business beneficial when this case goes to court?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you should hire an attorney as soon as possible to handle this. Not only to minimize the damage from any criminal complaint, bu also to resolve the debt with the facility. Unfortunately, it would likely cost $500 to $1,000 to resolve...and you might need that money to pay the reception facility. Please be in touch if we can assist you.
