Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Hampshire
I keyed my husbands car
MY Husband got really drunk one night and fooled around with a friend. I went bonkers and keyed his car about 12 inches as I was so mad. We are now getting divorced and he is using this against me and says he will have me arrested and sent to jail for this. What is the law? I offered to have it fixed and pay myself but he says no. He likes having something to hold over me head.

Re: I keyed my husbands car
In NH damaging the property of another is usually a misdemenaor and can be punished with up to 12 months in jail and a $2000.00 fine.
However, if a person does not have a record, it is very unlikely that they will go to jail.
In addition, if the car belonged to both you and your husband, then there could be an issue regarding ownership.
Finally, if your husband is attempting to solicit or accept a benefit (such as favorable divorce terms) in return for refraining from initiating a criminal prosecution, then he could be guilty of the crime of Compounding.
