Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Hampshire
Simple Assault
The police have pressed charges against my friend for simple assault but the victim is not pressing charges. What can the victim do to dismiss the case or what will the penalty be for my friend?

Re: Simple Assault
Simple assault in New Hampshire usually carries a penalty of up to 12 months in jail and a $2000 fine (it can be enhanced under certain circumstances).
The State is the "victim" of the crime and can bring charges without your friend's permission.
A criminal defense attorney can be very helpful in obtaining a successful resolution to these cases.
