Legal Question in Family Law in New Hampshire

Adoption by grandparents

My oldest sons fiance, of whom we are very fond, is pregnant with our sons child. Both are in college and have decided to give the baby up for adoption. Although I applaud their decision to not abort, it is breaking my heart and my husband's that our first grandchild will be raised by strangers. As the grandparents do we have any legal first rights to adoption. In other words, would the courts favor us over strangers?

Re: Adoption by grandparents

There are public adoptions and private adoptions. In your case, if BOTH parents are in favor of you and your husband adopting the grandchild, it could be handled as a private matter. Of course you'd need to be able to show the court that you have the ability and environment suitable to raise the child. I urge that you discuss this matter fully with an attorney. These are very sensitive matters and many items can have an impact on the process.
