Legal Question in Medical Leave in New Hampshire
Employment /Family Medical
My step-son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, he is insulin dependant. I have had to take a couple days off this month to care for him due to school cancellations/weather related. My husband snow plows and can not take care of him when it snows and school is canceled. My employer has told me, though I have the vacation time to take, that if it happens again, my job is ''on the line''. Due to the severity of his medical condition, his father and I are not comfortable leaving him with anyone that does not know exactly how to care for him. Am I covered under Family Medical Leave Act? Can they fire me for needing to stay home to take care of my step-son? Any advise would be appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Employment /Family Medical
You may be covered by FMLA if you are eligible and your stepson's condition is covered. More information about this can be found at www.dol.gov. Of course, this only deals with federal law and you may have rights under state laws which protect your employment.
You may want to go ahead and request intermittent FMLA leave time from your employer. At the same time you should consult with an experienced local labor attorney.
