Does a gift from my parent legally become mine when I turn 18?

For my thirteenth birthday, my father gave me a puppy he now 5 years old and I am eighteen. Is the dog legally mine now that I am eighteen? Does my father have the right to keep him from me now that I am out of the house?

I say that the puppy was legally yours even before you were 18.
