Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Hampshire

basement problems

I rent and in my basement is an old unused oil tank. It smells when you get close to it.Also the basement walls are falling apart and water keeps coming in and I have to use a wet/dry vac to get it out. old paint cans laying around. tenants before me lived here 14 years ,me two years.Landlord won't clean furance(gas) or the heating vents. It smells really bad when heat is on. Is there anything that can be done ? I get headaches and feel sick alot. Landlord says to just change the screen in furance,I do but it still smells. He refuses to get rid of old tank and clean the furnance vents. Thank you for reading this. Landlord says if I don't like it,I can move. Just want to know what my rights are.

Re: basement problems

call your local health department and try to get it inspected. If that fails, call the local Fire Dept or Police and tell them you may have a hazardous/flammable gas situation.
