Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Hampshire

I own a duplex and I live in one half and rent the other. My tenant has

placed several signs on his side of the lawn regarding local issues which

are in my opinion inflammatory. For example the sign about a murder

involving a Haitian immigrant said "fry the Haitian scumbag". Another

about a case of school bullying said "kill the bullies". After taking

these signs down a third sign used my name accusing me of violating his

freedom of speech. Am I?

I suggest that the starting point would be a careful examination of the lease you have with the tenant. Are these types of behaviors prohibited? Is this sufficient grounds for an eviction? Are the signt threatening to you? Do you have a right to terminate the lease?

This must be weighed against his free speech rights. You might benefit from a meeting with an attorney who can review all the pertinent documents and law regarding these sensitive issues.
