Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Hampshire
Late rent charge
I pay rent monthly, however sometimes I'm a few days late and my landlord charges me $25 per day. Is this reasonable?.

Re: Late rent charge
A late fee generally has to be stated in the lease agreement. If not stated, an oral contract can be shown by past dealings between the parties. In your case I can say that I haven't seen a $25.00 per day late fee in my experience, but that doesn't mean it can't be done. In order to more fully answer your question I would need additional information. Please note that even if the late fee is not appropriate, the landlord likely has the legal right to commence eviction proceedings based upon late payment of rent.
