Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Hampshire
I owe about $2000 in upaid rent and am moving on August 21, the landlord said he was going to serve me a writ anyway if I didn't pay. Do I have to pay the back rent after I move? What can he do if I don't ? I have NO money, even if the court says to pay I can't, then what?

The landlord has a right to bring a suit against you for money you owe for unpaid rent. If he wins in court, an order will issue for you to make payment. If you fail to make payment an order for your arrest may be issued. You may also petition the court to review your financial situation to determine if a payment plan should be implemented. A judgment from the court can be outstanding for several years, have an impact on your credit rating and be renewed to follow you until paid. It all depends upon how aggressively the landlord wishes to pursue the matter.
