Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Hampshire

Question about lease

Hi,

I have a quick question. I live in W. Lebanon, New Hampshire, and signed a 1-year lease in August 2006 for an apartment. By mutual consent of the owners and myself, they let me transfer to another apartment in the same building as it was larger and more private. I understood that I would be paying more per month and had everything in place to go ahead with the move. When the owners gave me the key to the new apartment, the lease they had me sign not only had the new monthly amount but they had changed the start and end date from Aug 2006-Aug 2007 to February 2007-February 2008. They had not mentioned this before, and because I was not prepared for this I had no choice but to sign the lease. What are my options if I would like to move at the end of this August? I only paid a deposit at the begining of my first lease.

If there is any other resource/community service organization that I can inquire to, please let me know.

Thank you.

Re: Question about lease

I'd need to see the lease in order to give a more precise answer. However, if you offered no protest or even indication as to your concerns, then you may be stuck. Generally, if you think that there is a problem with the term of the lease you should make it known to the landlord promptly. Often these concerns can be addressed by agreement between the parties. What do you see as the problem with the extended term?
