Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Hampshire

barking dogs impeding sale of house

We built a house for sale and the neighbor has six (one is a pit bull and the other are the size of black labs) dogs. They are fenced but everytime the real estate agent is there they seem to right next to the property barking their heads off. We have phoned the neighbors and knocked on the door to try to get them to leave dogs in during showings. Can I sue?

Re: barking dogs impeding sale of house

Constantly barking dogs are often classified as a nuisance. Have you checked with your local animal control officer or with the local police? That would likely be a good starting point. There may also be rules about the number of animals which can be kept in a single-family house.

You can bring suit, but the costs to go down that path are high and the damages are difficult to compute. Why not invite the neighbors over for a cup of coffee and explain the situation.
