Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Hampshire
indian giver
I was living with my ex-boyfriend for 7 years before we bought a house. We used only his name and credit on the mortgage. That was in 1997 we did a quit claim deed in 1998 to put me on the deed. In 1999/2000 i left him because of his bad drinking habits and 4 times DUI offender so i left with the clothes on my back. He got a girlfriend and any time i called to get some belongings he would threaten me with calling the cops and a resraining order so he did get one.
Here it is 7 1/2 yrs later he sends me with a letter that i am being sued for my interest in the property that he conveyed to me.What can i do and do i have to respond to his lawyer when he sends me all these requests?
Please help

First, don't ignore the lawsuit unless you want to lose any rights you may have. Be careful to respond by the deadlines in the court papers. You may be entitled to up to half the value of property depending upon the circumstances and facts or more likely, a smaller proportion.
Get a lawyer ASAP.
Re: indian giver
It is unclear to me if the property is in NH or MA. If it is in NH, contact a NH attorney ASAP. If MA contact a MA attorney ASAP. You may have a right to half the property, but you cannot ignore the lawsuit.
Good luck.

Retain an attorney to timely answer any lawsuit in which you have been served lest you lose by default whatever equity interest you may have earned in thr real estate. Good Luck!
