Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Hampshire
Life estate in real estate
I have a life estate in the house I live in. I live in NH. No terms or conditions are spelled out. It just grants me a life estate in the house. What are my legal obligations, if any, for major repairs, maintenance and taxes on the property?

The terms of the life estate are usually set out in the deed. Is your life estate recorded in the Registry of Deeds. If not it should be.
Generally, the person with the life estate takes care of the property during their life but the parties are free to make any arrangements they want.
