Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New Hampshire

executor question

I am going to be the executor of my fathers will when he passes. Is there a certain length of time a person has to get everything settled in the account?

Re: executor question

The probate process can be confusing. The State statute indicates that an Executor should present the Will for probate within 30 days of the date of death. An accounting is due within one year from the date of the Executor's appointment. If more time is needed, it is available. However, most estates are completed in about six months from the date of appointment. It is often a good idea to hire an attorney to help with the process as errors can cause significant problems down the road. The State has a guideline booklet which you may wish to examine at http://www.courts.state.nh.us/probate/adminestate03.pdf
