Re: heir at law and their rights

An "heir-at-law" is someone who has an interest in a decedent's estate by reason of blood (or adoption) or marriage (spouse). Heirs at law are generally entitled to notice of probate proceedings, as they have an interest in the estate if there is no will, or if they are not listed at all in the will.

If there is an attorney assisting with probate, you should contact them for answers. They can explain the process for your father's estate, and what will happen next.

If there is a conflict with the executor or a challenge to the will, then beneficiaries may need their own legal counsel.
