Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

child support

I got divoced July 13, 2001, in Maryland. Since then, I moved to New Jersey, and so did my ex. I was earning much more money in Maryland, and expenses were not as high as in New Jersey. My ex is not helping me with ''additionals'' as he promised, and things are very tight! I cut him a break in the child support, cause he was struggling. Now I'm paying for that ''break.'' He only gives me $600.00 for two girls (ages 11 and 15), and he is always late with payment. I have asked him to have it deducted from his paycheck and he refuses. What are my options? Thank you.

Please be advised that I have not been retained to represent you and I am basing this reply on the limited amount of information supplied. However, support obligations can be modified with Court Orders. It can take time, sometimes more than a year, to get through the Court process and it could cost you in legal fees and Court costs, and then there is no guarantee that the Judge will give you what you request. Generally, the Judge will want to know what you agreed to originally, what your economic siutations were at that time, and how both of your economic situations have changed. Have either of you remarried? There are many questions and factors and I would have to review everything with you before being able to porperly advise you.
