Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

I am currently being sued by a debt collector. I have already answered the complaint and we have exchanged interrogatories and admissions. I have also requested for production of documents. I did not use any official form, but I did asked for itemized statements and a copy of the signed contract from the original creditor on the cover letter of my interrogatories. The response from the firm representing the collector was that this request expired within 30 from the time the collector sent me their collections letter a while back? Is this true? I was under the impression that the request for the production of documents is made in the discovery phase and the opposing party has to produce said documentation.

You are correct. An FDCPA request for verification of the debt is not the same as a request for documents under the discovery rules and it does not "expire" in any case.
