Legal Question in Business Law in New Jersey
Accepting two written offers!
I received an offer to join firm A 3 weeks ago and I signed the written contract. But they seem to be postpoing the start date, and I am getting insecure. Now I have received an offer from firm B with a start date 2 months from now, but they want me to sign the written offer right away. I want to sign B's offer as well, just to be on the safe side, but if I do, and then join A eventually, is there anything wrong with backing out from B's offer at that time.....would there be any legal implications if I sign two written offers at the same time, and back out from one of them later?

Re: Accepting two written offers!
The answer depends on the language of each agreement, which you do not provide. "A" may be responsible to commence your employment immediately, depending upon the language on this. Did the agreement allow them to defer the start date? What happens if you take employment with someone else before that date? Same problem with "B". What does the language say? By signing 2 contracts, with no provisions for termination before their respective start dates, you could become responsible for lost income (particularly if "B" refrains from hiring someone, thinking you will become an employee on their start date). I suggest having a local contracts attorney review both documents and try to get language that protects you if you take a job with someone else "A" or "B".
