Legal Question in Business Law in New Jersey

Possible Auto Mechanic Fraud

I have a 1993 Ford Taurus Wagon. I had it checked out by two different mechanics, who told me there was nothing wrong with my brake system. I took it to a place that was having a special on oil changes. A day later,my brakes went out. This place told me that I needed a whole new brake

system. The other mechanics maintain that my brakes are fine, but my antilock system is leaking fluid and needs replacing. Is it possible the Oil-Changers did something to my car to make me think I needed brakes (which, by the way, came to over $1,000, because I need calipers, pads, shoes, etc.), or could this have really happened, overnight, without warning? Thanks for your help.

Re: Possible Auto Mechanic Fraud

It is possible that some fraud was committed. However, it might also be coincidence. If you could get the mechanics to issue a report certifying the actual cause of the problem, you could make a claim. You might also consider going to your local Consumer Affairs office (County or local) and having them get involved. Also, check what was done with several dealers as to the cost you were charged.
