Legal Question in Business Law in New Jersey

I brought my expedition into the ford dealer Monday to have a fuel filter changed. On the drop off envelope I authorized $300. The next day secretary called me and said they changed the filter but that was not the problem...long story short I authorized $900. Not a dime more. She kept me appraised over the next two days that spark plugs were breaking and that she would let me know if $900 was reached. She called several times to say this plug broke, and that plug broke, but nit ONCE did she say they reached the $900. Today she called to say it was ready and it was over $1400. I said I only authorized $900, and she said "I told you plugs were breaking and you said to keep going". She says she told me after the FIRST spark plug broke that we surpassed the $900. She did NOT or else I would have had her stop. We were trading this truck in...I didn't even want to spend $900 but I told her that was the MAX. Now they won't release the truck, and the service manager will nit return mine or my husbands calls. What do I do?

The dealers story sounds like all BS to me. Spark plugs don't break unless the mechanic does something wrong and no spark plug replacement is worth as much as $900. A short letter from your lawyer may help. You might also check with the Consumer Affairs office to see if that dealership has other similar complaints.

I handle matters of this type. If I can be of further help to you, call or email.
