Legal Question in Business Law in New Jersey
I own my own business and have had employees come & go. My current question deals with an employee quitting, is he entitled to vacation pay?
I had an employee of 20 years give notice of 2 weeks after he left he called asked when he would be getting his vacation pay. I explained to him since he quit he is not entitled to any. Am I right or wrong?

Some companies will pay employees who leave in good standing for any earned by unused vacation. Unless there is a contract or an established business practice that is in the nature of a contract, there is no obligation to do so. My experience is that most companies do not pay for unused vacation except as part of a formal severance package. /p/ See also: http://info.corbettlaw.net/lawguru.htm
