Legal Question in Business Law in New Jersey

I called out of work today and one of my managers demands a doctors note to return to work. He is only doing this because we don't get along, and hasn't made anyone else who has called out in the past bring one in to return to work. Is this fair? Oh, and on another note, on Sunday, I was only supposed to work in the morning but then the management team asked me to stay and close my work that night. I worked 16 hours (from open to close) straight through without a break. (this could also contribute to the fact that I am now sick)

Thank you for your LawGuru question. There are many things that are not fair and, at the same time, not illegal. If you're being singled-out because of whistleblowing or because of protected characteristics (e.g., gender, age, religion, race, etc.), then it is illegal. Also, under NJ law, there is no general requirement to give breaks to adult workers. I need more information before I can advise you.
