Legal Question in Business Law in New Jersey
Company Liability
If a company was to organize a networking group of similar minded business people, and the venue for gathering was at a happy hour type setting, is there a liability to the organizing company?
Even if the organizing company does not pay for, promote or distribute the actual provision of alcohol to participants. In this scenario participants would strictly pay as they go and preannouncement would be made to remind people to drink responsibly.
What if any, are the liabilities of such a situation to the organizer

Re: Company Liability
Any time alcohol is involved, there is a risk of liability. It is good lawyering for plaintiff's counsel to sue everyone implicated in an injury and let the discovery process sort out where the real liability lies. The measures that you describe will help you defend a suit but they will not prevent one. So, you need to be sure that your insurance will cover your defense and possible liability and weigh the benefits to your business against the risk.
