Legal Question in Business Law in New Jersey

DBA Question in New Jersey

I have been using a user name on Ebay and want to get a DBA on it. Can a DBA be a name with the word ''studios'' in it? Or, does it have to have the first name or a part of the sole propr. name (like Nancy's Plumbing). This is a part time business on the side of a regular job. Only started a little selling and want to make it all legal. Only using an Ebay user ID. My business would always be strictly ecommerce. Thanks... oh and yes i am looking for an attorney.

Re: DBA Question in New Jersey

In general, you can select a DBA with whatever you want, so long as the name is available in the state. Note, however, that just because the name is available, it doesn't mean that you should ignore trademark laws that may apply to that name.

My firm represents start-up ecommerce websites on a regular basis. Feel free to contact me for more info.
