Legal Question in Business Law in New Jersey
Dissatisfation with contractor
I recently had my bath remodeled. I am dissatisfied with some aspects of the job (small tile around radiator not set level, spackling tape exposed). The contractor ingnored the concerns that I put in writing. He has submitted his final bill. Can I force him to address those small problems? Is there an agency with which I can file a complaint about how he did the job? Can I hire another contractor to correct the problems, and reduce his bill by the cost of the second contractor? Thanks, C. Barbato

Re: Dissatisfation with contractor
Do Not pay your contractors final bill. You may have the work completed by another contractor and deduct the cost from the 1st contractors bill. You are also protected by the NJ Consumer Fraud Act. The Act requires contractors to do many things, including performing their duties in a quality workmanship like manner. If they fall short of this standard, you may have a viable claim for triple your damages plus reimbursement for your attorneys fees. Re: Dissatisfation with contractor
You are protected by the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act. Part of the Act governs how a home contractor must act. The Act is very detailed so I cannot put all of the information in my answer. I am very experienced in this area. You can check out my preliminary website for more information at http://www.lawguru.com/users/attorney/yogidog/index.html If you have to sue the contractor, you may be entitled to triple the amount of your damages plus the contractor would have to pay your attorney's fees.
