Handyman Work Performed for a Customer
Husband recently started a handyman business. Work was done for a customer in Oct. 2003. Customer signed invoice stating he was satisfied with the work. Customer was negligent after the work was performed. Customer wrote to the Better Business Bureau complaining, and we responded to the claim. Customer now wrote to Consumer Affairs. We would like to respond but are not sure if we can do this without a lawyer or if we should get a lawyer. The customer is being very dishonest. What can we do?

Re: Handyman Work Performed for a Customer
IF YOU HAVE A SIGNED DOCUMENT SHOWING THE CUSTOMER ACKNOWLEDGED SATISFACTORY SERVICE, MERELY SEND A COPY TO THE CONSUMER AFFAIRS OFFICE FROM WHOM YOU RECEIVED CORRESPONDENCE. I HAPPEN TO BE A CA VOLUNTEER. WE CANNOT SUE FOR THE CUSTOMER AND ONLY TRY TO MEDIATE DISPUTES. IF YOU RESPOND SHOWING THE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION WE WILL NOTE THAT ON OUR FILE AND CLOSE THE FILE AFTER COMMUNICATING WITH THE COMPLAINING CUSTOMER. YOU DO NOT NEED AN ATTORNEY TO RESPOND TO CONSUMER AFFAIRS AS THEY DO NOT INITIATE LITIGATION.
